The first public Masses in the Chaldean diocese—since the suspension of Masses on March 17, 2020—were celebrated on Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31 (Pentecost Sunday).

Pentecost celebrates the birth of the Catholic church, when the Holy Spirit came upon the Apostles, Mary, and the first followers of Jesus, who were gathered together in the Upper Room. It is also customary on Pentecost to crown the statue of Mary, honoring her as queen and disciple.

God of power,
may the boldness of your Spirit transform us,
may the gentleness of your Spirit lead us,
may the gifts of your Spirit
be our goal and our strength,
now and always. Amen.
