Onyatha d-Sahde

In the morning, you will hear my voice: At morning time, when the doors on high are opened to prayer, receive our pleading, Lord, and respond to our petitions in your mercy. Grant hope and salvation to the souls who wait for you.

And in the morning, I will be ready and will appear before you: The morning of our Lord arrived and suddenly our savior is revealed and gives a just reward to the righteous. Blessed is he who has prospered, worked in the vineyard of Christ, and has received his reward abundantly.

Be strong and your heart will triumph: In the morning, the martyrs in the judgment hall comfort one another and say, “The Lord is our help and we do not fear what any man does to us, whose crown and power will end. But the kingdom of the Lord is forever.”

He will bring judgment for those who suffer: In the morning, the faithful Shmony offered prayer to God, “O God, bring justice for me against Antiochus the wicked, who kills my sons as lambs and threatens me like a lion.”

The camp of the angels of the Lord: At morning time, the martyrs, who were a multitude of saints, went forth from prison saying, “Be quick, O king, to cut off our heads, so that we may depart and go up to heaven to our Lord who waits for us.”

For he has done a marvelous thing: A marvel was achieved from one end of the world to the other in the beloved child Qiryaqos, who, at the age of three years, grace overshadowed him, and he was strengthened in the faith.

Glory to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: At morning time, the heavenly and earthly creatures give glory to you, O Son, who sits at the right hand, for at the sound of the trumpet, the old, the young, and the children are awakened, whom you have created for your glory.

From age to age, amen, amen: Blessed is he, who commerced as you traded, O patron saint, and has collected spiritual riches, who also filled his ship with all blessings and steered the vessel to the assembly of all the just.

Let all the people say amen and amen: O Lord, your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us the bread of our need and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

After Martyr Prayers

* As morning dawns, we praise you, Lord, for you have saved your whole creation. In mercy grant a day of peace; bestow forgiveness for our sins.
* May you not ever cut off hope, nor shut the door before our face. Do not withhold your care from us, for you alone know our weakness.
* Sow love, peace, and harmony, uphold our priests and calm our kings, heal all our sick and guard the strong, forgive the sins of all mankind.
* We awake in the morning and adore the Father, lift up praise to the Son, and confess the Holy Spirit.
* May the grace of the Father, the mercy of the Son, and the compassion of the Spirit, the Trinitarian mystery, be for our benefit all of our days.
* In you is our help, O true doctor, supporter. Apply the medicine of your mercy and heal our wounds, lest we perish completely.
* Without your help, we become even weaker. O Christ, support of those who fulfill his will, protect your adorers, that they keep your commands.
* Let us plead in groaning and beg for mercy, asking forgiveness from the merciful one, who opens his door to all who turn toward him.
* Day after day, I promise you that tomorrow I will repent, but my days pass away and are gone, and my sins remain. O Christ, forgive me, and have mercy on me!
* Let us pray. Peace be with us.

Final Blessing:  May your grace dawn upon us, O Lord, when your justice judges us, and may your mercy come to our aid on the day that your greatness dawns, O Lord of all, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, forever.

Sunday Morning Prayers

Sunday Morning Prayer

for Sunday, Feast Days & Memorials

Priest:  Make us worthy, O Lord our God, that, according to the will of your divinity and your glorious majesty, we may serve you purely and diligently, attentively and earnestly, justly and uprightly, in holiness and without fault. May it be, O Lord, that our service be to your satisfaction, our prayer to your appeasement, our imploring for your honor, and our supplication for your reconciliation. And may the mercy and the compassion of your divinity be for the remission of the debts of your people, and the forgiveness of the sins of all the sheep of your flock, whom you have chosen for yourself in your grace and in your mercy, O Lord of all, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, forever.
People:  Amen. Barikh-Mar
Priest:  Enlighten us, O Lord, in your light, gladden us by your coming, delight us in your salvation, and let us share in your mysteries. Grant, and make us worthy, that with the heavenly assemblies clothed with light and the legions of angels, with hymns filled with thanksgiving, we may sing praise to your glorious Trinity. O creator with dominion over all! O creator who is not in need of the service of creatures! O creator of light in his grace, and orderer of darkness in his wisdom, knowledge and divinity which is incomprehensible to the spiritual and the physical, O Lord of all, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, forever.
People:  Amen.

People:  Amen

Morning Hymn of Mar Ephrem
Light has dawned upon the just and joy to the upright of heart (repeat)

*Jesus Christ our sovereign Lord,
dawning from the Father’s womb
came and brought us out of darkness
bright’ning us with his radiant light!

*Day has dawned upon mankind,
and the power of darkness fled;
brightness dawning from his radiant
light has darkened our darkened eyes.

*His glory he dawned on earth
brightening the lowest depths;
death was darkened, darkness banished,
and the gates of Sheol were destroyed.

*He enlightened all his works,
which had been in dark before,
and the dead who had been buried,
rose and praise, for they had been saved.

*He, the savior, gave us life,
to the Father’s womb returned;
he will come again in glory,
bright’ning those who bide his return.

*Our king will come again!
Let us light our lamps and go,
ready to rejoice in him,
as he rejoiced, and so we!

*Let us lift up praise to him,
to the Father giving thanks,
who in mercy sent him to us,
our salvation and all our hope.

*Without warning his day dawns,
and his saints are all awake,
and all those who labored, wearied,
and prepared are lighting their lamps.

*All the watchers in the heights
laud the glory of the just,
placing crowns upon their heads,
and all are singing Halleluiah!

*Brethren, rise up and prepare,
give thanks to our savior king,
who in glory will return and
gladden us with his radiant light!

Morning Hymn of Mar Narsai
The Light of the dawning of Christ has gladdened heaven and earth.

*Falsehood, like a pitch-black dark,
had been spread across the world,
but the light of the Messiah
dawned and gave the world clarity.

*History, from Adam on,
had resembled darkest night,
and the day of Christ’s unveiling
was the daylight hours’ running-course.

*The Lord had even compared
morning to his preaching’s start,
and the evening to the ending,
when the world will rest from its work.

*Priests and kings and prophets had
waited with this hope in mind,
and the maker gave them harbor
in the day that he was revealed.

*In his day all creatures rest,
who had once been crushed in sin,
and the world begins to ponder
the meaning of all future things.

*The new covenant he gave
to all who accept his creed,
and with his own blood he sealed it,
that his promise might never fail.

*With his promised paradise,
he made fast the course of man,
and behold, on earth and heaven
all await his coming again.

*The new coming of the king
who rules from our race has neared:
come, let us prepare to meet him
with the hosts of heaven above!

*Let us take the oil of love
for that day filled with despair,
lest we hear the voice then saying,
“begone, I know not of your works.”

*While we live, then, let us work
in the vineyard of the Word,
that we may then hear the voice
which says: “Come and receive what was vowed!”

*Let us fix our mind’s sojourn
with the hope of life to come,
and arrive, through love and
faith, then, at the harbor of all delights!

Light has dawned upon the just and joy to the upright of heart (repeat)
